Q’wemtsín offers basic dental services out of our dental clinic room.

Must be a band member of Tk’emlups te Scewepemc, Skeetchestn and Whispering pines/Clinton Indian band.

COHI Eligibility criteria: Children 0-7 years old that are living on reserve.

Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI)

  • Oral health education for children, parents, caregivers and expectant mothers
  • Dental screening
  • Fluoride applications
  • Sealant applications
  • Can be seen delivering service at: Q’wemtsín Health Society, Schools, Daycares/Nurseries, Health Fairs, Baby Circles, Family Circles, Community Events and Homes
  • Promoting healthy teeth and gums to contribute to overall good health
  • Cavities can be prevented; therefore helping children avoiding pain and infection allowing for a better opportunity to learn and thrive
  • Goal is by using simple oral health care preventative practices to reduce or eliminate dental disease and hospitalization
  • COHI provides your community with its very own dental professional – Crystal Chartrand Registered Dental Hygienist. Your community COHI Aide is Natasha DeNeef

Preventive dental care from birth to 7 years and expectant mothers – To help establish good oral health, it’s important to:

  • Clean your child’s teeth twice a day
  • Allow your child’s teeth to benefit from fluoride
  • Limit snacks high in sugar (choose healthy snacks)
  • Take your child to visit a dental health professional regularly

Other tips:

  • Teeth should be brushed twice per day – morning and before bed
  • Develop a good routine for cleaning your child’s teeth and your child will have healthy and strong teeth for life
  • Always use a toothpaste that contains fluoride (fluoride helps strengthen enamel which makes it more resistant to decay)
  • Have a dental health professional look at your child’s teeth as early as 6-12 months of age. (Ensure your child has a FULL checkup by a dentist by age 2)

Dental Clinic

Q’wemtsín Health Society offers basic dental services out of our dental clinic room. Our basic dental services include:

  • Dental examinations
  • Digital X-rays (diagnostic imaging)
  • Restorations (fillings)
  • Extractions
  • Preventative dentistry
  • Periodontal maintenance (cleanings)

To access the Dental Clinic you must be a first nations person from Skeetchestn, Tk’emlups te Secwepemc, or Whispering Pines/Clinton bands, and living on or off reserve. 

If a client does not show up for one of the scheduled dental appointment without notifying the front desk or dental team they will automatically be placed at the end of the client wait-list. The client’s will be informed of this when they book their first appointment.
